Dental veneers are a popular choice for people seeking a perfect smile. Veneers mask teeth that are discolored, stained, chipped, or misaligned and create a long lasting beautiful smile. They are ultra thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom-made to fit over your teeth, providing a natural, attractive look.
Veneers are generally placed on the front teeth to enhance your smile and self esteem. They generally last many years with proper care and can be a good alternative to dental crowns. Placing Veneers generally requires lesser trimming of the tooth since they are placed on the front of the tooth.
The procedure for placing a dental veneer normally takes two to three separate dentist visits. During your first appointment, we will perform a comprehensive oral exam, recommend how many teeth will require veneers, explain the treatment process, address other dental issues prior to placing the veneers, and clarify your insurance coverage and out-of-pocket expenses.
Once you decide on the veneer procedure, the identified teeth will be prepared which can include trimming. An impression of the teeth is taken and the completed impression is sent to a dental lab, so the veneers can be fabricated. By the end of this visit, we may decide to create a temporary veneer to protect the teeth until the final veneer is ready to be placed permanently.
We will call you to make an appointment when the veneer is ready and received from the lab. During this appointment, the temporary veneer, if any, is removed, after which we will fit the new veneers to the teeth with a special adhesive. Curing light is then used to ensure that the veneers are bonded strongly to the teeth.
Once your veneer procedure is complete, it may take some getting used to before they feel normal in your mouth. Brush your veneers as regularly as you brush and floss your natural teeth. With proper care and oral hygiene, veneers can last many years. If you have any questions about your veneer, we are just a phone call away.
