During your visit to the office, we will perform a comprehensive oral examination and recommended various options of dentures. A Partial denture will generally be recommended for people who still have few of their healthy natural teeth. A complete denture is advised when all or most of the natural teeth are missing. Fixed partial dentures, also known as "crown and bridge" dentures, are made from crowns that are fitted on the remaining teeth. Fixed bridges are generally more expensive, but are more stable and look natural.
The entire denture process generally takes multiple visits. We will diagnose the condition of your mouth and prepare it for either partial or complete denture. Dentures are fabricated in a dental lab. A dental impression of the teeth is taken and the completed impression is sent to a dental lab for processing.
We will call you to make an appointment when the dentures are ready. During this appointment, we will fit the new dentures in your mouth, and make any necessary adjustments.
Your brain interprets your new dentures as foreign materials inside your body, until it grows used to them. Many people initially feel uncomfortable with their new dentures, as they’re a new (but good) change. After a few weeks, you will get accustomed to wearing them, and you will be able to eat and speak comfortably, once again. To maintain the longevity of the dentures, it is important to remove and brush them every day.
